James J Lawless Park Disc Golf mixes sagebrush and short hills

James J Lawless Park sits in central Richland behind the Fred Meyer on Wellhouse Loop.

The course uses low hills and big sage to frame its lines. It is simple to reach and free to play.

Most holes are short to medium in length, yet placement matters. Miss a gap and a kick into the brush can cost a stroke.

James J Lawless Park Disc Golf Course Overview

This is a desert edge layout with open skies and wind in play. Fairways run over firm ground with small rises and rocky patches. Big stands of sagebrush shape many drives. They also hide discs, so keep an eye on landings and use a spotter on blind shots.

The design asks for control more than raw power. There is a good mix of downhill touch shots and longer flat throws. Tees are a mix of concrete, sidewalk, and packed dirt.

Signs mark holes and basic lines. Reviews call out the brush as both feature and hazard. A few edges run near park roads, so wait for traffic to clear before you throw.

Rates / Booking / Local Tips

Play is free. No tee time is needed. Park near the Fred Meyer and walk to the start on Wellhouse Loop. Wind is common, so choose stable discs and aim for flat landings. The sagebrush is tall in places. Wear long pants and use a spotter on throws that finish blind. Be alert near roads and paths on the course edges.

Final Word
