Fort Walla Walla Disc Golf Course mixes history with fun throws

Fort Walla Walla Park holds more than a museum and walking paths. It also hides one of southeast Washington’s busiest disc golf spots. Built in 2001, the course spreads across old cavalry grounds, crosses Garrison Creek, and finishes near open grassland. Tall shade trees, mowed fairways, and wildlife create a relaxed place to learn or sharpen skills. The park sits two miles south of downtown Walla Walla and play is always free.

Fort Walla Walla Disc Golf Course Overview

Players start south of Garrison Creek near a “birdhouse” kiosk that holds maps and scorecards. The front portion winds through trimmed lawn with mature shade trees. Fairways are forgiving yet still ask for line control. A footbridge takes you over the creek to longer holes in open grassland. Wind becomes the main defense on that side. The round finishes back in the shade for a comfortable walk to the lot.

Each tee has a simple sign that marks hole number and distance. Blue tees stretch close to six thousand feet. Red tees shorten many drives and make an easy first loop. Multiple pins let league directors switch looks without heavy work. Community events run most Sundays and rotate singles and doubles play. A casual loop takes about ninety minutes for a pair.

Hole-by-Hole Highlights

Distances from the popular Red layout

  • 1 — 209 ft Straight opener under tall maples.

  • 4 — 359 ft First big drive, basket hides left behind brush.

  • 9 — 355 ft Long fairway to a guarded pin, marks the turn.

  • 10 — 161 ft Creek runs left, skip right is safe.

  • 12 — 199 ft Blind rise, disc must clear a low canopy.

  • 14 — 246 ft Tee across the creek gap, favorite photo spot.

  • 16 — 220 ft Gentle right bend, forehand sets up birdie.

  • 18 — 294 ft Finish near parking, trees pinch the final putt.

Amenities & Practice at Fort Walla Walla Disc Golf Course

Concrete tees on most holes make footing solid in every season. Restrooms sit near the parking lot. No drinking water on course so pack a bottle. Open lawn by Hole one works for warm-up putts or hucks before you start.

Food & Beverage

The park does not list food service. Downtown Walla Walla is a five-minute drive and offers coffee, bakeries, and taco trucks for post-round fuel. Bring your own water and snacks. Pack out what you bring in.

Rates / Booking / Local Tips

No fee or booking system. Show up and play. Weekends can see league traffic at nine in the morning so mid-afternoon is often open. Creek banks hide stray discs, keep an eye on skips. Summer grass grows ankle high north of the bridge, bright plastic helps. Winter rounds play faster with crisp fairways and fewer leaves.
