Columbia Point sits on a bend of the Columbia River in Richland. The city-owned layout is the lone James J. Engh design in Washington, known for its mounded fairways and large greens. From the opening tee you see water, desert bluffs, and the Hanford Reach hills in the distance. Five sets of tees let every group pick the right length, and the walk from green to next tee is short, so pace of play stays brisk.

Engh used gentle land beside the river and built interest with sculpted mounds and swales. Fairways are generous but rarely level, so approach shots often call for side-hill stances. Greens are large and roll true, yet strong contour makes below-the-hole placement vital. Water borders four holes; desert rough frames others. The front nine touches the river twice, while the back nine turns inland and finishes with a risk-reward par 5 beside a pond. In summer afternoon winds add a club on west-facing holes. Walking is welcome, though most locals ride to beat the heat.
