Celebrate creative writing in Port Angeles, Washington: a gritty coastal village where the mountains meet the sea.

This event includes:

  • Readings by Billy Collins, TC Boyle, and Tess Gallagher
  • A special performance by accomplished actors designed by radio’s Selected Shorts
  • Memorial Pie and Poetry event at Carver’s Grave
  • A dance performance based on Carver and Gallagher literary works
  • A double feature film event with Altman’s Short Cuts and Zagha’s Five Boys and a Wheel

  • Many panels and lectures on literary topics

About the Event

The Raymond Carver and Tess Gallagher Creative Writing Festival will be held April 25, 26, and 27 of 2024 in Port Angeles, WA. Our keynote guests are Tess Gallagher, Billy Collins, TC Boyle, and Selected Shorts. The festival includes readings, a film screening, conference style presentations, pie and poetry at Carver’s grave, optional writing workshops led by accomplished Northwest writers, and more. All Access Festival Pass

The all access festival pass ($400) includes all events with the exception of the writing workshop where students work on their craft with one of our published authors. Catered lunches are included for Thursday and Friday.

In order to maintain an intimate setting in which to interact with our writers, this event is limited to 200 attendees. Additional tickets will be available for various individual readings for friends or family.

Writing Workshops

Writing workshops ($120)must be purchased separately. Each workshop will meet over two days, Thursday April 25 and Saturday April 27 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. Workshop teachers/authors include: Alice Derry, Charlotte Gould Warren, Lawrence Matsuda, Tim McNulty, Kate Reavey, Holly Hughes, Carmen Germain, and more. Students will have the opportunity to hand in one short work on the first day and receive feedback from the instructor in addition to workshop activities. Keynote Readings

A limited number of tickets will be available for our keynote readings at Field Hall for $15 each if you’d like extra tickets for friends or family. All access pass holders are guaranteed entrance to all keynotes, which are included with the pass.

Location

All events will be held on the gorgeous Peninsula College campus in Port Angeles, Washington, with the exception of the keynote readings, the dance performance, and Selected Shorts, which will be held at the brand new Field Hall Performing Arts Center. The Pie and Poetry Carver memorial event will take place at Ocean View Cemetery.

Refunds

Refund Policy: No refunds unless event is cancelled by organizer.

Writer Cancelations: The festival staff has done their due diligence to assure that we deliver this event exactly as we have promised it to you. However, in the unlikely event that a writer should cancel and is unable to honor their contract with the festival, we will do our very best to find a substancial replacement.
