August is here, which means summer is on its last leg, so it’s time to live it up while we still can. A lot of our favorite annual events (Seafair, Wooden O, Magnolia Summer Fest, the Children’s Business Fair, the Seattle Tattoo Exposition, Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day and Bumbershoot) have been canceled this year due to COVID-19. We updated this list to include upcoming events you can attend safely from home or while physical distancing outside.
Nordic Sol Festival
Nordic Sol Festival, formerly Viking Days, will be held virtually through August 31. This free summer celebration hosted by the National Nordic Museum focuses on learning with the theme of “Nordic by Nature.” Virtual activities focus on the beauty of outdoors, sustainability and what nature means to Nordic countries and those who live in the Pacific Northwest.
The event has programming for all ages, and includes art classes, book talks, demonstrations and more. Check out the schedule to find an event that interests you!
Free State Park Day
August 25th: Free State Park Day
To all my nature-friendly friends, this one is for you! On August 25th, you are able to pack up a picnic basket and a backpack with some hiking boots, and go to any of the 140 Washington State Parks, free of charge! It’s also the National Park Service’s 104th birthday. This is good for parks statewide!
Washington Trails Association Hike-A-Thon
The Washington Trails Association is hosting their annual Hike-a-Thon virtually this year to give you the opportunity to get outdoors and support trails.
Sign up to spend the month of August hiking and sharing outdoor adventures while raising money for the Washington Trails Association. Money raised goes toward building and improving trails, creating partnerships and advocating on issues that impact parks.
WTA has a goal to raise $150,000 in August. Sign up or donate here.
