While I recognize that not everyone reading this guide celebrates Christmas, if you or your family don’t use stockings: think of this section as the “for everyone” gift portion. This is a completely mixed portion of the guide of items that are functional, fun, and would work for a large variety of people you’re shopping for.
Hoban Cards uses a letterpress, an ancient printing technique that allows them to create unique stationery, cards, and more in Chehalis. The letterpress creates distinctive impressions into the paper. Do you know someone who recently landed a new “adult” job? Hoban’s stationery sets are the perfect gift for them. With a selection of layouts to choose from, they will give the recipient a feeling of pride to see their name on high-quality paper to write letters on. Is it old school? Yes. Is it classy and a well-thought-out gift? A million times, yes! Come learn more about Hoban Cards here on our podcast.
Upper Left Candle Co.
Do I need another candle? No. Do I want another candle that smells like Hurricane Ridge, Mt. Rainier, or the San Juan Islands? Yes. Enter Upper Left Candle Co. Founded in 2019 by Mary, who lives in Port Townsend where she enjoys spending time in nature with her family and wanted to create candles that bring a sense of the outdoors into your home. Made with soy wax, her candles have a burn time between 40-65 hours to provide a wonderful scent. Make sure to check out her Fall & Winter collection as well this holiday season!
Earlier this year, I headed to Walla Walla, aka wine country! Wine Away reached out to me on Instagram and offered to send me some of their products to try out during my tastings. Even as a grown adult, I still manage to be a completely clumsy person when eating or drinking and often spill things on myself.
Wine Away was founded over 20 years ago, with the original design as an all-purpose cleaner but after some time they realized their product works great at removing red wine stains on clothing. If you have someone in your life who loves red wine as much as me, the Wine Away “Emergency Kit” is a perfect gift and takes up little space in their bag. Make sure to also check out their “UnWined Teeth Whitening Tablets” because honestly, that is the biggest downside to red wine!
The Cook Book Vol. 2
When COVID happened, a lot of people lost their jobs. A lot. Sarah Monson, a Seattle-based line cook was one of them. With a passion for food and determination to create something wonderful, she wrote a cookbook. Cheap Beer & Pork Leads to a Cookbook is the title of our podcast episode with Sarah back in June of this year, and for a good reason: these are two things she loves. She began writing recipes down in her trusty notebook, kept cooking at home with her roommates, and reached out to others in the cooking community to collect recipes to share with the world. The Cook Book Vol. 2 is a collection of 60 handwritten recipes from the Seattle restaurant industry’s chefs, bakers, and bartenders featuring cover art by Sarah herself. At $20.00 per book, it’s a budget-friendly present that explores the world of food in Seattle.
