Mason’s Place Moses Lake, Washington Day 22 of the 100 Cups of Coffee in 100 Days Project

Mason's Coffee Moses Lake

Cups of Coffee and Customer Service.

Mason’s Place in Moses Lake is a small coffee shop located in “downtown” Moses Lake. Edie and I were out for a drive and worked our way from home out to Moses Lake with a few detours here and there. By the time we arrived I was needing coffee! Greeted by two friendly baristas who were very welcoming and enthusiastic. One of my observations (which I will go over in detail after the project is finished) is that it makes a huge difference if you are greeted by someone who is happy to see you enter the shop vs. someone who could care less. Mason’s staff gets it right!  After a bit of conversation where I was telling them about the 100 Cups of Coffee in 100 Days Project we got around to deciding what I would try.

Mason's Coffee Chemex Brewer

Mason’s Place does Chemex!

I was able to have a Chemex pour over which of course puts a smile on my face. Any coffee maker that is used as a prop in a Bond movie (From Russia with Love) or on the Mad Men set (Don Drapers kitchen) is something I can fully endorse! The barista was sharing with me that he had been experimenting with a 10 to 1 ratio which is a pretty strong ratio of coffee to water. The fact that we were discussing coffee to water ratios made me happy. During the brewing process we chatted as he went about the preparation of my coffee.

The coffee was Caffé D’arte’s Toscana. This is a lighter roast designed for being served as drip coffee. With the 10 to 1 ratio the coffee was delicious with a sweet aroma. I really enjoyed this cup of coffee. I don’t know that I would have enjoyed it so much if the ratio was something like 15 to 1. That is one of the great things about coffee. You can always adjust the recipe and fine tune your coffee to your taste.  Finding a coffee shop that will serve you a pour over or other single cup method is a key step in finding your perfect cup. Good Coffee. Check!

Cozy Shop Comfortable Seating

Mason’s Place is full of windows which makes the shop bright and welcoming. The chalkboard above the counter has a nice selection of coffee drinks to choose from. There is a separate seating area that would be useful if you wanted to get some work done or have a quiet conversation with someone. The main part of the shop is snug with a nice selection of pastries and non-coffee beverages. Mason’s also sells Caffé D’arte beans so you can enjoy them at home. Comfortable place for conversation. Check.
