THING Festival 2025: Where Summer Sounds Better

THING Festival mastermind Adam Zacks is shaking things up — literally. Say goodbye to the traditional three-day music marathon and hello to a reimagined, four-part sonic adventure. This summer, Seattle Theatre Group’s summer staple transforms into a series of one-day spectacles, popping off every Saturday in August.
Each Saturday brings a powerhouse lineup of seven genre-bending, indie-loving acts, crafted like mini music festivals all their own. Think of them as four carefully curated, full-flavor concerts — each with its own ticket.
Thing Festival 2025 Line up
August 2, 2025: Alt-Americana with a Twist of Indie Magic
We’re kicking off THING with a full-on daydream. Think lush melodies, lyrical soul-searching, and just enough twang to keep your boots tapping. Headlining the first Saturday is none other than Father John Misty, master of wit, drama, and swoon-worthy orchestral swells. Expect magic. Probably a little mischief, too.
Then there’s Orville Peck — the masked cowboy crooner riding in with heartbreak ballads and big outlaw energy. It’s gonna get mysterious (in the best way).
Also taking the stage:
-
Deep Sea Diver, led by Seattle’s own Jessica Dobson, delivering sharp-edged indie rock you’ll feel in your bones
-
The beautifully strange, deeply reflective Jessica Pratt
-
Hamilton Leithauser, spinning stories and big vocals like only a Walkmen alum can
-
The spellbinding Haley Heynderickx, weaving folk poetry that sneaks up on your heart
-
And Clover, a mellow groove-maker you’ll be bragging about discovering first
It’s a curtain-raiser full of feels, strings, and indie charm — the perfect way to float into festival season.
August 9, 2025 Indie Anthems & Electro Feels Under the August Sun
The second Saturday dials things up with bold sounds and big feelings. Headlining the day is the genre-melting, high-voltage force of Rainbow Kitten Surprise, bringing the kind of live show that turns casual listeners into superfans. Get ready to move, sway, and maybe shout-sing a few lyrics.
Joining them is UK standout The Japanese House, serving up shimmering dream-pop layered with electronic textures and emotional punch. Think sunsets and synths — you’ll float for hours.
Also lighting up the stage:
-
Medium Build, mixing grit, heartache, and warmth in songs that feel like late-night confessions
-
Soccer Mommy, indie-rock royalty with a knack for wrapping nostalgia in guitar fuzz
-
Truman Sinclair, spinning introspective lyrics into sparkling sonic threads
-
Chinese American Bear, mashing up surf rock and soul with retro charm
-
Rose Peak, ending the day with breezy, lo-fi coastal vibes that feel like a secret beach party
If opening weekend was your soft launch into THING, consider this the moment the bass drops and the dance begins.
August 16, 2025 Beats, Ballads & Global Groove: A Saturday Built for Dancing
If rhythm moves your soul, August 16 is your day. Leading the charge is Chile’s own Mon Laferte, a firestarter of sound who blends rock, folk, and Latin soul into something that hits you right in the chest. She commands the stage with passion, power, and a voice you don’t forget.
Sharing the spotlight is breakout group Yahritza Y Su Esencia, reimagining regional Mexican music for a new generation — all heart, all talent, all vibes.
Also bringing the heat:
-
Thee Sinseers, serving up modern soul with vintage swagger
-
Rubén Albarrán of Café Tacvba, bringing solo psychedelic folk that drifts and dazzles
-
Angélica Garcia, channeling bold messages through lush, alt-pop brilliance
-
Terror/Cactus + Pahua, fusing global beats and electric energy into one unforgettable set
-
Lucia Flores-Wiseman, a bilingual rising star with powerhouse vocals and lyrical grace
It’s a day rooted in tradition, bursting with innovation, and guaranteed to get you moving. Come ready to dance — and feel everything.
August 23, 2025 THING goes out with a bang — and a serious groove. The Roots, hip-hop royalty and live-show legends,
Joining the grand finale is guitar wizard Cory Wong, whose turbo-charged funk (and Vulfpeck pedigree) promises a closing set that’ll have you dancing all the way to the parking lot.
Also on the farewell lineup:
-
Glass Beams, layering psychedelic grooves with a cinematic twist
-
Tune-Yards, a masterclass in percussion, vocal loops, and bold experimental pop
-
Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio), bringing visual art and magnetic vocals into one unforgettable performance
-
Local favorites Parlor Greens, dishing up indie-funk with homegrown flair
-
And PNW Mic Check, a regional showcase highlighting the sharpest hip-hop voices from across the Pacific Northwest
Expect big sounds, surprise moments, and one last summer exhale as THING takes its final bow.
