Capture the Colors of Fall

Level: All levels- great for anyone wanting to learn about painting Fall Leaves

Grab your favorite tea or pumpkin spice treat and join us for a fun afternoon of learning how to paint your favorite Fall leaves using beginner-friendly techniques. Jen will show you how to capture the leaf shape, the supplies that she uses, techniques for creating beautiful color mixes, and how to create a painting that you can enjoy all year.

This is a great opportunity to explore new subject matter, ask questions, and use existing art supplies you may already have on hand.

Topics covered:

  • Warm-up
  • Observation skills
  • Capturing detail with line, texture, and scoring
  • How to incorporate shadows to add dimension

Materials needed:

To draw and paint with Jen, bring the following supplies to class:

  • Leaves: Bring 3-6 leaves to class, in varying shapes and colors. It will help if the leaves are fresh and soft vs, crispy and brittle.
  • Watercolor paper: Canson XL 140lb watercolor paper is a good starting paper.
  • Pencil
  • Waterproof Pen: Micron 05 is a versatile pen
  • Paints: Watercolor or gouache paints in a variety of colors. At a minimum, we recommend having a dark blue, a yellow, and a red for mixing.
  • Water: 2 to 3 cups
  • Paint Brushes: A small and medium-sized brush.
  • Palette or plate: a surface for mixing your colors.

Jen’s current watercolor palette is listed here if you would like to know more https://wanderingpine.com/2021/12/10/whats-in-my-field-art-kit-and-how-to-build-your-own/
