An Earth Day Inspired Cleanup to Help Maintain the Beauty of Mountain Loop

Meet at the Granite Falls Police Station next to the City of Granite Falls (205 S. Granite Ave.)

In 2023, Kula Cloth officially adopted three tiny stretches of roadway on the Mountain Loop Highway. As Kula embarked upon its journey of highway parenting, it took great pride in the Mountain Loop’s beauty, and understood that it came with a heavy price. Kula is responsible for its upkeep and maintenance at least twice a year. Although less frequent then traditional diaper changes, mountain cleanups can be equally messy.

At our first cleanup, we remove nearly 400 pounds of garbage in less than 3 hours. And there was still a ton of trash begging us to return.

On subsequent cleanups, we managed to take back the Mountain Loop Highway. Please join us for an Earth Day-inspired cleanup event to help maintain the beauty of our beloved Mountain Loop. Let’s come together to make a positive impact on the environment and celebrate the spirit of Earth Day.

Armed with determination, brightly colored hard hats, florescent orange vests, litter grabbers and a shared passion for environmental stewardship, each cleanup crew proudly obliterates the litter that plagues the highway leading to some of the PNW’s favorite hikes (Gothic Basin, Goat Lake, Vesper Peak, Mt. Pilchuck, Heather Lake, Lake 22 and others).

Please Join the Kula Academy on this trashy quest to maintain the beautify our highway. Grab your gloves, muster your sense of humor, and join us to make a difference, one vodka bottle at a time!

What to Expect:

  • A tasteful collection of garbage curated from the Mountain Loop
  • Kula Cleanup Fashion Show: featuring brightly colored hard hats and florescent vests
  • A Gallery of Mountain Loop Collectibles – featuring your favorite finds
  • Garbage Photo opps – featuring your best poses with your favorite finds
  • Nominations for the Official Beer Can of the Mountain Loop – IYKYK
  • Synchronized Litter Grabbing
  • And lots of fun with Kula people

Where to meet:

We’ll meet at 10am in front of the Granite Falls Police Station right next to the City of Granite Falls. From there, we will do a brief introduction, a safety talk, give out hardhats, safety vests, litter grabbers and carpool to the cleanup location near 135th St NE (Hidden Valley Road).

The Mountain Loop Highway is home to many of the PNW’s favorite trails including: Mount Pilchuck, Heather Lakes, Gothic Basin, Mt. Dickerman, Perry Creek and Forgotten Meadows, Lake 22, Vesper Peak, and many more. This is your chance to make the road to some of our favorite trails a whole lot prettier.
