Learn techniques, tools and tips for working with wire in this introductory workshop taught by artist and researcher Kristin Tollefson.

Learn and practice technical skills for working with wire and gain an appreciation of this craft’s long history and evolution around the globe. Experience wireworking through presentations, demonstrations, and firsthand engagement with materials and tools. Each participant will take home a curated selection of handouts and their own sample pieces built during class. All tools and materials will be provided in this hands-on workshop designed for curious beginners, returning students, or those with crossover experience in metalworking or textile techniques.

Instructor: Kristin Tollefson is an artist and educator with over 35 years of experience, including a research-based Fulbright Grant in Slovakia to study historic and contemporary wirework. Kristin’s practice includes sculptural installations and performance-based artworks for public spaces, jewelry, and small sculpture. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, and works at BIMA as Director of Education and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advancement.

This workshop follows Kristin Tollefson’s January 18th Untold Stories: Journeys; presentation on her Fulbright in Slovakia.
