An in-depth exploration of relief (aka block) printmaking!

In this four-week class, we will explore relief printmaking. Students will learn about the history of relief printing methods, the proper use of tools/inks/papers, different carving mediums, and image making techniques.

We will work with wood and linoleum as carving mediums so students can get a sense of the different qualities these mediums have. We’ll learn about reduction printing, multicolor printing and registration, and alternative printing techniques.

This class lays down a solid foundation in block printing so you can continue on in an informed and empowered way!

Students will leave this class with a variety of pieces and process experiments, their finished blocks, a print edition, and a zine outlining the content covered in the course.

Foundations of Relief Printmaking is taught by Alchemy print studio manager and printmaker Katey Rissi.

Class meets over the course of 4 Mondays in October: 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, and 10/28 from 6-9pm.

This class is held in the print studio in the main art building on the AAC campus. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.

Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.

A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are experimenting with offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.

Tuition Assistance: Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.
