Falcon Photography – In the Field with The Falconer / Saturday, May 3rd

May 3 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Photograph raptors in a controlled natural setting.

Join us for this great opportunity to photograph several raptors in a park like setting. Owls, Falcons, Hawks and more will be available to photograph in a wide-open natural park-like area. You will have an opportunity to photograph birds in flight in a predictable and controlled setting. This event promotes falconry and includes the sharing of info on falconry practices. Location will be shared via Eventbrite 24hr before event to respect the property owner’s privacy.

Sunday, May 4th Workshop Registration

Onsite – Our morning will start at 8:00am with a quick orientation and brief bird photography instruction provided by Steve Ball and an introduction to The Falconer – John Prucich. While in the field, Steve Ball will be available for any camera setting questions or tips on how to maximize your photographic experience if you feel you need it.

We will be working in an open field lined with trees with opportunities for perched photographs. John will also be setting us up for the in-flight portion of the morning where you will have an opportunity to get some great in-flight shots with select birds. All while learning about each bird’s native habitat and hunting behaviors.

The Falconer – John “The Falconer” Prucich is a licensed practicing Falconer, and will be opening his facility to us to photograph some of his most photogenic birds. John Prucich has a wealth of knowledge on falconry and birds and will educate you on each bird along the way.

Steve Ball – Steve Ball is a and long-time bird photographer. Steve spends time traveling to birding hot spots throughout the U.S and assisting with birding events.

Gear – Interchangeable Lens Camera and lenses in the 200mm to 400mm range. Tripods and monopods are welcome. Rain sleeves for cameras and lenses if your gear is not weather sealed are available at Kenmore Camera. If you are thinking about bringing a much longer lens, take into account that this is a group workshop and longer lenses push you to the back behind others and you may have to reposition when people up closer move to get a better angle. If you don’t mind adjusting for that, feel free to bring your longer lenses.

Location The location will be disclosed 24hrs before the event at the request of the property owner. Drive time is approximately 45 minutes south of Seattle in the Kent/Covington area. Our location is an open field with a small hill to walk. Attendees should be able to walk on uneven grassy ground. Sitting on the ground is often the best angle for perched birds but not required, so dress accordingly.

Weather – We will photograph if there is light rain, but that may limit the in-flight availability due to the bird’s unwillingness to fly in rainy conditions.

Cancellation Policy – If the event is cancelled due to poor weather a full refund will be given to participants. Any cancellation prior to 24 hours of the event will get a full refund. Cancellation within 24 hours or a no-show will not be refunded. All event notifications & directions come via email from Eventbrite. Please be sure you are receiving communications from Eventbrite.
