Howdy folks, welcome to another edition of Exploring Washington. I’m your host Jonathan Phillips. Our guests today are Rose Freeman and Anastasia Allison, a pair of musicians who call themselves the Musical Mountaineers.
As the name implies, they are known for putting their instruments in backpacks and hiking to remote locations in Washington to play their music. For instance, they have played “Colors of the Wind” on a cliff overlooking the Puget Sound and a rendition of “Let’s Get Together” near the summit of Granite Mountain. Their style is intentionally simple and vulnerable, and although they usually play without an audience, they do record some performances and post them on YouTube and Instagram. Both musicians are classically trained – Rose plays the piano and Anastasia plays the violin. Read our article about the Musical Mountaineers.
