Doing a bit of reading about Anderson Island and I came across two titles that appear to be quite interesting. Both are written by Hazel Heckman and are published by the University of Washington Press. I was able to find both title at the Tacoma Public Library although I plan on picking both up to add to my library.
Island in the Sound is a book about Anderson Island and details some of the history of the island and the authors own personal experiences while living on the island. The book is very well written and has a very easy flow to it. I learned a lot about the island and it only deepens my appreciation of the island and the people who have lived there and helped shape it into what it is today.
Second Year is the second book Mrs. Heckman authored about Anderson Island. This book is a month by month look at the changes in the island. Even though each year is the same each year brings surprises. This is another well written and enjoyable book. This book written in 1972 which is the period of time when the island was beginning to be developed.
Both books give a great overview of Anderson Island and in my opinion should be required reading for anyone considering moving to Anderson Island. The island today still is a tranquil oasis just miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
If you know of any other books about Anderson Island I hope you will add a comment to this post.
I am looking forward to my next visit to explore more of Anderson Island.
Until next time.
